Getting Around Des Moines

1. Most Des Moines suburbs use the same street numbering system. The exception is West Des Moines. This can be confusing at first. West Des Moines starts at about 63rd Street in Des Moines and goes west. When looking for an address, keep in mind that West Des Moines has a whole different set of street numbers.
2. The Des Moines River approximately divides East addresses from West Addresses. In other words, West 1st Street is immediately west of the Des Moines river and East 1st Street is immediately east of the river.
3. For the most part, in Des Moines numbered streets run north and south.
4. I-235 meets up with both I-80 and I-35 on both ends.
5. People in Des Moines are generally friendly and helpful. If you get lost, don't be afraid to ask for help.
